Welcome to Seattle Shiba Inu!

A couple years back we saw a Shiba Inu puppy in the pet store and thought that it was by far one of cutest dog’s we had ever seen, even by puppy standards. After asking the employees a little about the breed and playing with the puppy for while, we decided that it might just be time to bring a dog into our family and that a Shiba might just be the perfect breed.

As we are not impulse buyers and bringing a new animal into your life and home is a big decision, we decided to read up on the breed and learn what we could before deciding to buy one. One thing that we missed in all of our reading it that for the most part, they don’t really get along with cats and in our case, the cat doesn’t really get along with them either.

After through research and months of discussions we decided that we really did want to bring a Shiba Inu into our home. At the time we were living in Tucson, Arizona and searched long and hard to find a breeder in our area.  We were able to find one breeder and they had just had puppies. We drove out to see them and while they had some that were very cure and loveable, we could not find the perfect one. While slightly discouraged by this we did not give up. After searching long and hard, we found a breeder in Missouri who had a beautiful, 10 week old Shiba puppy for sale. Her name at the time was Frisky and we fell in love with her. After multiple communications with the breeder, she was sent to us via airplane. We brought her home and changed her name to Hoshi, meaning Star in Japanese.

Hoshi as a puppy

Hoshi is now a year and a half old and still just as beautiful as she was when she was a puppy.  We have since moved to Seattle, Washington, where she has had some wonderful adventures and has had the chance to play with many other Shibas just like her.

One of the main purposes of this site is to help Shiba owners connect with others in their area so that they can get together for play dates. Once a month we go to the Shiba meet up in Bellevue, so that Hoshi gets a chance to play with other Shibas but we would really love for her to be able to play with other Shibas more often. We live in West Seattle, and have had a hard time finding other Shibas for her to play with. Inside the Play Time tab, you will be able to communicate with other people in your area and set up these “play dates” more often.

Another goal for our site is to help Shiba owners find other owners who can Shiba sit when they go out of town. When we go out of town we always look for a somewhere that is kennel free because we don’t want her to spend the whole time in a cage alone. It is often a challenge to find these kennel free places and can be a financial burden as they are usually much more expensive. I would love, as I’m sure many of you would, to be able to leave Hoshi in the care of someone who owns a Shiba and knows their quirks and needs. I know it would also be great for her to have a companion while we are gone. If you are a Shiba owner and are interested in sitting for other Shibas, or if you are looking for someone to look after your Shiba with you are away, then click on the “Shiba Care” tab.
